Maritime commerce requires

  • Sud Services : the main activity of the company based in Port-La-Nouvelle, in France, is the consignment of vessels, but they also organize the port of call, transits, harbour handling, customs operations, and merchandise quality control.

  • Granit Services has a fleet of 300 wagons which makes up more than 500 full trains each year, or the equivalent of 650,000 tons of grain.

  • ATO Container business : the company ATO (Associated Terminal Operators) in a joint venture with IFB (Belgian company) holds a storage capacity 80,000 containers in Antwerp in Belgium. This tri-mode terminal (river, rail and road) saw 255,000 container movements in 2011. Its unique geographical position in the port of Antwerp and the depth of its berths offer very good links with the ports of Rotterdam and Zeebrugge. Work to fill in the inner harbour will eventually allow an additional area of 9.5 hectares to be obtained in the port of Antwerp.

Sustainable development

Logistics and energy consumption are optimized by all means available to Axereal. The Group owns a fleet of 300 cereal wagons and 50 private railway sidings in the Centre region. Each year, 2000 trains are chartered, or nearly 2,500,000 tons of cereals transported. The economies in terms of CO2 emissions are undeniable if one considers that one train takes the place of 50 trucks on the road. For Axéréal alone, this is 100,000 fewer trucks on the roads.

To limit the consumption of fuel for road transport, the regular renewal of truck stock allows for the latest technical innovations in engines, but also, 50% of the drivers are trained in economical driving, which allows us to observe decreases in consumption of around 3 litres/100 km. We notice that in ten years the average consumption of these vehicles has gone from 42-43 litres/100 km to 36-38 litres/ 100 km, in other words a reduction of about 5-6 litres/ 100 km. With these economies of nearly 9 litres/100 km, these actions certainly have a very positive impact on CO2 emissions.
