  • Contracts in the field. Axereal offers cooperative producers from Agralys and Epis-Centre “Filière Orges Brassicoles” contracts (Brewing barley sector). These contracts are offered to areas which fulfil both the crniteria for “Brewing barley land” and “Brewing barley logistics”.

  • The Group relies on trials conducted in its agronomic testing area and on different platforms in order to raise the quality of produce and guarantee the performance of contracts for both winter and spring barley.

  • Malt houses. Axereal has the use of 11 malt houses in Europe with a total production capacity of 1.1 million tons of malt: Antwerp, Ghlin and Gembloux in Belgium, Issoudun in France, Knapton and Bury St Edmunds in England, Athy in Ireland, Glenesk and Buckie in Scotland, Dunaujvaros in Hungary and Nova Gradiska in Croatia.

  • Synergies come into play between these different production sites which each have their own specifications.

  • Brewery clients. More than a million tons of malt is sold across the world. From 10 sites in Europe, and with 50 % of the total sales volume destined for non-European markets, Boortmalt has extended its activities across the globe. Boortmalt is also known by whiskey distillers for its specific production carried out in Scotland and Ireland.

Silos and Logistics

  • Silos : for the North Sea, the group uses two port silos - Sobelgra and Samga – in Antwerp (Belgium) with a storage capacity of 300,000 tons.

  • ATO Container business : the company ATO (Associated Terminal Operators) in a joint venture with IFB (Belgian company) holds a storage capacity 80,000 containers in Antwerp in Belgium. This tri-mode terminal (river, rail and road) saw 238,000 container movements in 2011. Its unique geographical position in the port of Antwerp and the depth of its berths offer very good links with the ports of Rotterdam and Zeebrugge. Work to fill in the inner harbour will eventually allow an additional area of 9.5 hectares to be obtained in the port of Antwerp.
