Launch of Low-GHG rapeseed
Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is a major focus of efforts to protect the climate. Axereal is keen to encourage its cooperative members to maximise the value they derive from their crops by adopting exemplary crop management approaches.
To this end, Axereal is starting the year by offering a new “Low-GHG rapeseed” specialist sector to help improve the environmental footprint of biofuels (CO2). For farmers eligible for CultivUp (the group’s sustainable agriculture strategy), a total GHG emission calculation will be carried out, using their technical itinerary, entered into the Synchroo traceability tool, together with an assessment of the carbon stocked in the soil made by evaluating their crop actions. Axereal has undertaken to pay farmers based on the results of this calculation.
This new specialist sector offers the cooperative an opportunity to support producers’ efforts to make their farms more sustainable and to offer them better prices for their crops.
“We are pleased to see Axereal taking the lead in developing the low-GHG rapeseed specialist sector. It is evidence of the cooperative’s active role in the agro-ecological transition,” said Jérôme Bos, Axereal’s Agricultural Businesses CEO.
This innovative specialist sector is open to all producers who delivered rapeseed during the 2019 harvest.
